Bill Nelson Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Let me be the first to say how thrilled I am for you. Perhaps you'll share with us how this met your expectations -- and comment on the recording quality if the source is a private tape. Quote
JSngry Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 It's a good record, and you find out that Herbie's nickname is Oatmeal because he's "done in three minutes"...I actually read a national review that claimed to not get it...Or is that on the Miles Jorgie's side w/George Coleman? Yeah, I think it is. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) whoa look at the other VGM releases availble: webster Young plays the Miles Davis Songbook vols 1, 2 & 3.............. what?!? so vol 2 never came to be? (re- DB & pepper adams...)oh god where is it! i really need these w.y. lps-- omg i bet theyre live cuts.... Edited May 11, 2011 by chewy Quote
brownie Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Those three Webster Young are live dates. Interesting for Webster Young's playing, not so much for the other musicians. One of the feature of Volume 2 was the track 'A Trumpet Player's Town' which turned out to be a 1980 radio interview with Miles Davis. Miles seemed to be speaking out of a cave! When the recording was released it was a rare chance to hear from Miles who had sort of retired at the time. Quote
Stonewall15 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 It looks like all the cuts except "Amen" on the Jorgie's LP are on the Byrd/Adams Royal Flush CD. Is this correct? Quote
jazzbo Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 NOT the same performances as on the Blue Note cd. Quote

Not the greatest of fidelity on those LPs - a "curate's egg". Quote
