7/4 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 nice....reminds me of Long Island during the heat wave. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Beautiful. Expect Omar Shariff to appear in a haze in the distance any second. Bet there are already 'entrepreneurs' assessing its viability as a site for a brand new casino city. Quote
JSngry Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Reminds me of the drive from Vegas to Albuquerque. Quote
T.D. Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Very cool and surprisingly Earthlike. Reminds me of some of the landscapes in the movie No Country For Old Men...half expected to see Javier Bardem with a weird-ass haircut blowing somebody's brains out... Quote
papsrus Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Anyone here familiar with Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy? Red Mars Blue Mars Green Mars Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Seems that Mars is more Philip Glass than Gustav Holst! Quote

johnlitweiler Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Looks like the semi-desert of UT, CO, AZ, NM. "Unseen life" indeed. What is the surface temperature there? Quote
7/4 Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 As the friend who sent it to me said, "Looks like it's teeming with unseen life." there's little red men just below the surface! Quote
Big Wheel Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Looks like the semi-desert of UT, CO, AZ, NM. "Unseen life" indeed. What is the surface temperature there? Roughly, a balmy -30 degrees Celsius, though maybe a bit warmer (~0 Celsius) if the Spirit rover's data is any indication. If there's any life there, it either lives deep in a crater where pressure is higher, or else has evolved to cope with water going straight from ice to a gas without passing through the liquid phase. Water on Mars acts like dry ice on Earth. Quote
BruceH Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 The picture reminds me a lot of Nevada, only more pleasant-looking. Quote
