Sad news: blues musician David "Honeyboy" Edwards has died. He was 96.

wow, another legend passes. so glad he lived to a pretty ripe old age.

Heard him play at a local club about 15 years ago and he was playing great then.

if you can, listen to the recordings he made for the Library of Congress (I think for Lomax). One of the most advanced of the old bluesman, a real modernist of the style.

Wow - what a life.

I saw him twice in Atlanta, and one about five or six years ago at Rosa's in Chicago. For this Georgia boy, there was something special about hearing him perform "Sweet Home Chicago" in Chicago.

Saw him just last year as part of a blues review. He was brought our for a couple of numbers looking quite frail, but then he began to play and kicked ass.

Had the pleasure of seeing him earlier this year at a Robert Johnson tribute performing with Hubert Sumlin. They were both hooked up to oxygen tanks, but still were jamming.

All Honeyboy fans owe a ton to my good friend Michael Frank. His championing of Mr Edwards on his Earwig label is why anyone knows about him today.
