chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 http://www.faqs.org/copyright/hi-groove-low-feed-back-m-hank-mobley-the-changing-scene-m/#id8538720 can someone explain to me what ive stumbled upon here. it seems to say that hanks father got these put in his own name as next of kin, that seems legit...but was it this were lookin at? bertrand Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 Look at the dates. The original date of copyright is around the time of the recording (EU). The next date is the renewal (RE). If Hank was still alive, he renewed it. After his death, his father Otis Rogers, took over. All renewals were done through Don Sickler's Second Floor Music, which took over Hank's publishing. chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 how did don sickler get control of hanks music?THATS CRAZY, some were renewed during hanks life, others after his death. what about all the rest of his compositions, where are they? this is facinating. is there any rhyme or reason to when they are renewed? how many years need to pass? this is incrediblethe lee morgan pg has all these songs ive never even heard of Quote
bertrand Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 Yes, Lee has many unrecorded tunes. Bertrand. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 16, 2012 Author Report Posted February 16, 2012 but none have been found for hank i there? i emailed don sicker with some questions, i hope he doesnt get mad. i really wanna know how he started his assoiation with hanks publishing n stuff... Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 I don't get the renewal dates here... I was under the impression that due to the 1976 Copyright Act, all renewals are now automatic. This being the case, I can only imagine that these renewals were undertaken to transfer Hank's copyright over to his father after Hank's death. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 16, 2012 Author Report Posted February 16, 2012 yes. but if they could do this right after hanks death, why couldnt he get his $ during his lifetime. hank knew he was owed money but had no idea who to get it from Quote
Dan Gould Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Have you missed this, Aric? Your absence from the thread discussing this is most glaring. Quote
