J.A.W.
What's with this American habit to wish dead people a happy birthday?? I see it all the time on American bulletin boards. Very weird.
flat5
You just had to groan again? :-) Really? Only USA-ers? Interesting.

Teasing the Korean
I was listening to some early Peggy Lee with Benny Goodman. She sounds like a completely different singer, much more in a Jo Stafford kind of bag. I realize singers' voices naturally change over time, but with Peggy Lee it sounds like she made a deliberate choice at some point to change her style. Any specific info on this? crisp
James Gavin's new bio might shed some light on this: http://books.simonandschuster.com/Is-That-All-There-Is/James-Gavin/9781451641684
Larry Kart
I'm a great admirer of Lee. I met her backstage once in the mid-'80s; it seemed as though the closer one got to her, the more indistinct her features became.

Ted O'Reilly
"... the closer one got to her, the more indistinct her features became." What an interesting observation! I've noticed such a thing once or twice, but couldn't have stated it so succinctly...
