clifford_thornton Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 I didn't see anything here noting his recent passing, which I discovered when looking up information following the purchase of his "Double Bass" LP. Link here. If I'm posting erroneously, feel free to close down this thread, but I didn't see a previous posting. Quote
brownie Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 This is sad news! An interesting musician who had an interesting life. He plays on several of favorite Zoot Sims sessions (the Dawn, Argo and ABC albums, the 'Live at Half Note' LP with Cohn and Woods). He also was the bass player on Bobby Jaspar's NY date for French Columbia (with Tommy Flanagan and Elvin Jones). Quote
mikeweil Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Sad news indeed, A very versatile player, and an excellent one! I first heard him on one of Herbie Mann's Afro-Jazz Lps, where he delivered a great bowed solo, on some of the albums Brownie mentioned, and Lee Konitz' Nonet. An unsung hero of the bass, IMO. Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) only met him once; he came to pick up Dick Katz at the end of my wedding on September 12, 1982, to take him to a gig in NYC. Easy name to remember. Very nice man. Edited August 11, 2012 by AllenLowe Quote
JohnS Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 Sad news indeed, he's on several records that I really enjoy. Quote
