Pete C Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 I started noticing Steeplechase titles on Spotify last night. I think this is new, at least in the U.S. I never saw their titles before when I browsed Bley & Dexter. Quote
mikeweil Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Criss Cross, too ... many others - I typed in Sam Yahel and got a Ron Horton album he's on. No more CDs in the computer for me. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Thanks Pete and Mike! Both of those labels I would like to become more familiar with. Quote
David Ayers Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Spotify is squeezing out the download. Quote
Pete C Posted September 16, 2012 Author Report Posted September 16, 2012 I think more and more labels are either embracing or making peace with the inevitable. Quote
BFrank Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 If I understand correctly, the biggest problem with Spotify and others is that the artists get next to nothing from this system. For their sake, I hope something gets worked out. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 BF, when spotify started in the US a year ago, I read that the artist (as opposed to the record company) is paid $0.004 per song per play, up to a maximum of $0.04 per album per play. Quote
CraigP Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Just read an article this weekend that said Apple will have to eventually change iTunes to reflect the "access, not ownership" model. Quote
David Ayers Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Just read an article this weekend that said Apple will have to eventually change iTunes to reflect the "access, not ownership" model. Inevitable. Downloading is beginning to look like no more than a hiccup in audio history. Quote
Pete C Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Just read an article this weekend that said Apple will have to eventually change iTunes to reflect the "access, not ownership" model. It'll be easy enough since they already have the engineers from Lala, which they bought and so far have used mainly for the song matching technology. Quote

Daniel A Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 Here are some interesting figures: http://www.spotidj.com/spotifyroyalties.htm I take it the royalties are not much different from what old fashioned FM radio generates if you divide the outcome with the number of listeners. Quote
