mjazzg Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) Good luck to them. I have a very good independent bookshop in my area set up by two ex-Waterstones' employees who were made redundant when the local branch was closed. We get a nicer bookshop, they get a lot more satisfaction running their own business - nice outcome Edited July 18, 2013 by mjazzg Quote

Alexander Hawkins Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 Not sure about the Charing Cross Road one, not being a Londoner, but there are still Waterstones around (e.g. here in Oxford)! Quote

I don't ever remember a Waterstones in Charing X Road unless it was many years ago and replaced by Blackwells nearly opposite Foyles. Waterstones still about generally but went through a "restructuring" a few years back hat closed several stores. Inside info suggests not all currently open stores will remain so, expecially in towns/cities with two stores. Quote

I may be mistaken about the exact Charing Cross Road location, I only remember discovering Waterstones in the mid-to late 90s at a site surprisingly close to Foyle's (which left me wondering how both could thrive in such proxmimity, even in this "book shop district"). Haven't been to London since the yar 2000 so was wondering, but if they only closed down certain sites this answers my question. Quote
J.A.W. Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 I frequented Waterstone's in Kensington High in the late 1980s. Is that store still around? Quote
sidewinder Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) I was in Waterstones UCL store/Bloomsbury on Torrington Place yesterday. It (and the Fopp store adjoining it) seems to be doing fine ! Edited July 19, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
