Stefan Wood Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 I did get the Fiio X11K, which complements the X1. It's an amp, and I got it for the purpose of eventually connecting it to my stereo, as well as for the NVX XPT100 headphones I ordered. Basically for late night set up to deal with baby crankiness. Scott Dolan Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Hmmm, I had never even heard of those cans before. How do you like them? Quote
Stefan Wood Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 The cans should be coming in today. It is a type of headphone that has had many iterations. It is also known as the Brainwave HM5, I believe, but much cheaper, and reports from other users have been the comfort level is excellent. You can swap out the ear cups from flat to angled. The headphone wire can be removed and upgraded, if need be. The band itself is very flexible. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Nice. My son wanted headphones for Christmas, so I went straight to Headroom since in my experience they never peddle crap. I knew I'd pay, but wanted his first set of cans to at least be acceptable. Saw these Superlux HD681s for $40, and almost lost faith in the website. But, I did quite a bit of research on them and they were getting glowing "bang for the buck" reviews. I fear $40 cans, but those suckers are mind boggling for the price! They don't compete with the big boys, but absolutely bury any of the Beats I've auditioned while bored at Best Buy. There are hidden gems out there. That's why I'm interested in your thoughts. Please give your impressions once you've broken them in! Quote
Stefan Wood Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) I'll let you know. Right now I am using for the commute the Amazon Basics headphones, a surprisingly excellent $25 headset that is light, comfortable, and decent but not high end sound. But let's face it, when I am on the subway I'm not gonna need all that range. What it does have is excellent clarity. Edited January 15, 2015 by Stefan Wood Quote

JSngry Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 Apple could be grooming the Apple Watch as a kind of replacement for the iPod I do not wear a watch, have not worn a watch since 1974, don't even own one now, and can still find a way to know what time it is when it matters. And if I ever do buy a watch, it's not gonna be from Apple You know what else goes on your wrists? Handcuffs. Speaking of which, I don't wear a wedding ring either, and have remained faithful for every day - and night - of my marriage. So when Apple comes out with their iCockring, I'll not be getting that either. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Posted June 14, 2015 Apple could be grooming the Apple Watch as a kind of replacement for the iPod, according to AppleInsider.com, which first reported on the iPod name being removed from Apple’s menu lineup. I'll buy an Apple Watch when my heli-pack arrives. I wonder if this is also linked into the streaming service. Cut us off from our iPods so we subscribe there. Quote

So when Apple comes out with their iCockring, I'll not be getting that either. I can't imagine the Apple Watch being anything but a complete bust. Like you, I never wear a watch. Last time I did was when I worked in Ophthalmology and used it to do work ups on patients. But, I also wore a long sleeve dress shirt. It might just be me, but I've never liked the look of a watch when wearing short sleeve shirts. All that said, if I ever got back into a line of work that involved dress wear, I would likely get another watch. BUT, it sure as hell wouldn't be the Apple Watch. $350 for the cheap, plastic-y looking one?! Pass... Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Posted June 14, 2015 My watch (Casio) costs about £8. It will break sometime in the next couple of years (usually when I break the seal replacing the battery and then moisture leaks in). At that point I'll buy another one...probably for £9. The watch is essential in my day job...timing things within a lesson is vital. On the few occasions that I've been without it's been like having my legs chopped off. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 IIRC, I paid something like $45 for my old watch. It was actually a really nice looking watch, most people thought it was more expensive than it was. If I ever buy another one, I may be willing to spend a little more than that. But it certainly won't be anywhere near $350! I realize there are people out there who spend $XX,XXX on watches, but not this boy. Quote
John L Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 I'll buy the iWatch when they make one that holds at least 500 gigs of music. Quote

I'm intrigued by the practicality of having your earphones connected to your wrist. A bugger when gardening or scrambling around coastal footpaths (not to mention International House Cleaning Day). David Ayers Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 It would be great to have a thread for folks to list all the new or recent technology with which they have no familiarity and do not intend to purchase. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) Only problem being that the Apple Watch isn't "new" technology. That tech has been around since at least the Palm Pilot. And unless one doesn't own a smart phone, they are perfectly familiar with it. They just shrunk it even further so that you can wear it on your wrist. Edited June 14, 2015 by Scott Dolan Quote
Scott Dolan Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 I just don't wear a watch, period. As I said before, neither do I. But that's not the point, IMO. The point is that the overwhelming majority of people who do aren't going to spend that kind of money on one. And since most are already tied into phone contracts, and want bigger screens to surf the web...well... Quote
JSngry Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 Point or not, I don't wear a watch, period. I ain't no Dick Tracy, although, hall of fame style points for the hat/jaw combo. Quote

Gotta admit to being mightily amused at the thought of Tim Cook or Craig Federighi onstage at a future WWDC exhorting the Apple faithful to "Imagine a Fitbit, but for your dick." On second thought (and after a quick trip to Google), I might have guessed that someone not only already had the same idea, but actually developed it: http://wgrd.com/oh-good-theres-now-a-fitbit-for-your-dick/ Quote
