Hardbopjazz Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 I really enjoyed these guys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZu097wb8wU&app=desktop Quote
mjzee Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) Not jazz, but when I used to walk through the 42nd St-GCT station, I caught Susan Cagle play a few times on the mezzanine level, and she knocked me out. I bought the CD from her. It was actually recorded on the subway platform. Much better than those guys who keep playing El Condor Pasa. Edited March 8, 2014 by mjzee Quote
JSngry Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 I really enjoyed these guys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZu097wb8wU&app=desktop Is that some fairly recent R&B tune? It sounds familiar? I dig the white shoes too, they serve a purpose. Quote
ejp626 Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 I caught these guys very briefly on my last trip to NYC. I really should have stayed another 5-10 minutes to pick up their CD, which I presume was the two of them as a kora duo, but I was feeling particularly rushed. Well, I'll see if lighting strikes twice on my next trip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWBrchn09yY Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Caught saxophonists Henry P. Warner and Andrew Lamb in a sextet in tribute to Roy Campbell, Jr. the other day under Grand Central at 42nd St. Sublime. Kalaparusha was a regular at 14th/Union Square on the 4/5/6 line. It was always a treat to see/hear and talk to the man. TEST played regularly at Astor Place on the 6 throughout the latter half of the 90s and into the 00s. I think that stop still has some leftover juju; I always get a boost of energy walking through that station and it feels very special. Quote
