I'm not sure the strings will be to your liking, but this is certainly a slow ballad version:

Got to say, I prefer Etta's a bit, but that's a very nice performance, as one would expect, Duaneiac. Do you know what album it's from? And does ANYONE know why there's a photo of Barbra Streisand on a Dinah Washington vid?

Why break up when you can crack up?

Or hire Hal Blaine as a WMD, nobody gets out of this one alive.

Any story to go with either of these, Jim? I sort of hoped that you at least would share one story. What is the difference between 'break up' and 'crack up'? I don't know this last one.

Tonight, during a live performance, I was reminded of this one.  A song that reminds me of a certain guy. We were really close, or at least I thought we were, but I guess I was just means to end to him and that did really hurt I can tell you.

Ah ok, thanks for your definition.

Well of course they do speak for themselves, but the 'fun' is that you could tell why a particular song has a certain memory for you. The song connects to someone and a situation from the past. That was the idea of the thread, not just a list of "break up" songs, but those that mean something to you personally. I do understand people not wanting to go into detail, there is no need for that. For me music has always been about emotion, that's why it speaks to me. So that's why I got the idea of the topic in the first place. I find it interesting to learn which music helped others in a situation like that. I know it helped me to deal with it at the time and now to remember the love itself.
Anyway thank you for those songs, both great!

Ok, here's one that has real meaning for me, but it's from my early teen years, so...hormones, small sample size, exaggerate reaction, etc. But the basic sense of a dream not only deferred, but denied, crushed, that carries over across life, and not just to matters of "the heart".

No, I never said that it was. You're right. Thank you for your story. I love The Temptations! I still must have a video somewhere of their story. My vcr won't work anymore though with my 'new' tv system, so I need to find it on dvd at some point.
