chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) k, so its NY USA labels both sides, Stereo # 84105 , no EAR, 'classic style' pre liberty cover, vangelder stamped -- the monos DO have the playstlite 'ear'-- but not for stereos, is there a chance the stereos come from liberty era, yet use old style covers leftover and old style labels leftover, i say that cause: 1) no 'EAR' & 2) the vinyl weight *****also interesting to note: in the hand etchin of the side #s, side A has a scratched out "B", and side B has a scratched out "A". Homefromtheforest Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 I used to have a stereo "new York USA" pressing that had the "ear". I sold it along with my mono "ear" copy. Anyway sounds like a Liberty era pressing with left over NY labels. But yeah the original stereo pressing does exist with "ear"...I used to have one! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 My stereo copy has a pre-liberty sleeve, but a Liberty inner sleeve and it sez 'a division of Liberty Records' on the label. No ear, of course, but it has the crossed out A and B by the numbers, like Chewy's. There are probably loads of somewhat different combinations of stuff on most BN LPs. MG Quote

robertoart Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 Finding a copy of Visions with van gelder both sides would be like my Blue Note perfect storm. I've only bought about ten copies trying. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 I would not call it a mistake -- like many independent imprints, Blue Note used old stock/earlier covers, labels, inner sleeves and even stampers on newer runs. They were cost-conscious, both before and after the Liberty takeover. Quote
kh1958 Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 The Fred Cohen Blue Note ID book says the first issue of the stereo version is New York USA, with the ear, the same as the mono version. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) I have one of these Liberty era lam cover, stereo 'no-ear' pressings of this one somewhere in the racks. Picked up for a snip back in the day at Mole Jazz in their 'Collectors Rack' and in great condition. As I recall, the sonics were extremely good. Will hunt it down..
