HutchFan Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 I watched a Bogie film last night too: Quote
ejp626 Posted December 3, 2025 Report Posted December 3, 2025 Saw Twelve Monkeys in the theatre last night. Still packs a punch. I forgot that it was directed by Gilliam. Am hoping to see the latest Knives Out outing, Wake Up Dead Man before it goes exclusive to Netflix. I might make it out on Sat. Quote

It's a fun movie like the first two. Quote

Brad Posted December 6, 2025 Report Posted December 6, 2025 Incredible movie about the Stasi and what it did to people. Quote
ejp626 Posted December 7, 2025 Report Posted December 7, 2025 TIFF is having a Mikio Naruse retrospective. I've managed to book tickets for 4 of the films and am trying to see 3 more (which are currently sold out, but tickets generally are released a few days ahead of each screening). So far I saw When a Woman Ascends the Stairs and then today, Floating Clouds, which was far too melodramatic for my taste. Quote
gmonahan Posted December 14, 2025 Report Posted December 14, 2025 Went to see "Sentimental Value." Quiet film, nicely written, beautifully acted. Quote
ejp626 Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 Watched North by Northwest (on 70 mm!) yesterday afternoon, then followed it up with an evening screening of Wake Up Dead Man. Quote

Where'd you see it in 70mm? (IIRC-- and I often don't-- it was shot in VistaVision.) Quote
ejp626 Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 TIFF in Toronto. They claim it was a 70 mm print. And then next week Vertigo in 70 mm. Quote

NxNW was indeed shot in VistaVision. The original VV negative was scanned at 13k and that scan was then used to create a new 65mm negative, which the 70mm print that was screened at TIFF was then printed from. Looks like it will be screened in Beverly Hills next month and in NYC in February: “North by Northwest”: The 70mm Presentations Edited December 17, 2025 by Dave Garrett Quote

IIRC (and again, I often don't), Vertigo was also shot in VistaVision and I saw it screened at the Academy's Goldwyn Theater several years ago. Quote
