Justin V Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Brian Lynch has a Kickstarter campaign going for a Latin Woody Shaw tribute. Joining him are fellow trumpeters Sean Jones, Dave Douglas, Diego Urcola, Etienne Charles, Josh Evans, Michael Rodriguez and Philip Dizack, along with pianist Zaccai Curtis, bassist Luques Curtis, drummer Obed Calvaire and percussionists Pedrito Martinez, Little Johnny Rivero and Anthony Carrillo. I'm excited to hear this one when it comes out. Here is the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1927361678/support-brian-lynchs-latin-jazz-project-madera-lat. Quote
sonnymax Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Thanks for the heads up, Justin. It's nice to have the opportunity to support artists you enjoy. Quote
sonnymax Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Hopefully some other members will contribute. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Is there a track-listing yet? 2 CD's, iirc. Very tempting!! Quote
JSngry Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Let this serve as a reminder to us all that the best way to kickstart any kind of tribute for any artist is to buy their stuff while they're alive! Having said that, Brian Lynch has all kinds of credlegitmacy with me. Will definitely keep an eye out on this one. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Every time this thread comes up it reads, "Brian Lynch's Latin Woody". And I think to myself, "Brian Lynch doesn't SOUND like a Latin name..." Quote

From the project description: "In trumpet combinations from duo to quartet, these eminent horns explore Shaw classics including In A Capricornian Way, Tomorrow’s Destiny, Zoltan, Song Of Songs, Sweet Love Of Mine, and more, along with two original pieces - one a extended suite - written by Lynch in salute to the profound influence Woody has had on him as a player and composer." The video features snippets of 'Zoltan' and 'Time Is Right', a Lynch original. I backed the project solely on the description without first watching the video, which may have been a first for me. This is going to be a great album. Quote

mikeweil Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Judging from the video, those trumpet players were having a ball! Quote
