felser Posted January 19, 2017 Report Posted January 19, 2017 I enjoyed her music. It's well outside of the scope of this forum, but I've spent a lot more time listening to Anita Baker, than listening to, say, Anthony Braxton or someone. Apples and oranges. "Sweet Love" was great in the mid-80;s (a breath of fresh air), and is still great. Quote
JSngry Posted January 19, 2017 Report Posted January 19, 2017 Fine singer whose material was quite often uplifted by her superior abilities.. I've listened to her a lot, although not in a long time. Frankly thought she was already retired, or at least semi-retired. Quote
John L Posted January 20, 2017 Report Posted January 20, 2017 I like her quite a bit. She is a true original, a voice that you never mistake for somebody else - and quite a voice at that. Quote
mikeweil Posted January 20, 2017 Report Posted January 20, 2017 I wish she would have recorded more during her Blue Note years. She got a bitt jazzier then, with great results, but her perfectionism was against it, I suppose. And bad luck: I read somewhere she had a whole album done when clicking noises were discovered caused by a defect in the mixing board rented for the project ... She is stunning on this DVD: Quote
