HutchFan Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 (edited) Jimi Hendrix - First Rays of the New Rising Sun (Sony) I stayed away from Hendrix's posthumous releases for many years, not wanting to hear any "half-baked" Hendrix. My son, who's a Hendrix fanatic, brought this home a few years ago. When I finally heard it playing in his room one day, I was shocked by how fully realized -- and flat-out GREAT -- it sounds. Billy Cox brings so much to this music, an incredibly funky and soulful vibe. . . . When Hendrix died, I was two years old. If I could travel back in time to hear Hendrix in person, I'd rather hear the band on this record (with Cox & Mitch Mitchell) than even the classic "Jimi Hendrix Experience" with Noel Redding.   2 hours ago, alankin said: Pharoah Sanders – Thembi [on two-fer that also includes Black Unity] (Impulse! / Verve EU – 2-on-1 series )  I'm going to see/hear Pharoah perform next weekend.    Edited October 5, 2017 by HutchFan Quote
