Records) — Alice Coltrane — harp, piano; Joe Henderson — alto flute, tenor saxophone; Pharoah Sanders — alto flute, tenor saxophone, bells; Ron Carter — bass; Ben Riley — drums. This is the first Alice Coltrane recording I heard, after paying no attention for a long time (maybe I didn't take her seriously, or thought her music would be too much woo-woo spirituality). It's outstanding! I've since gotten quite a few AC recordings (including "spiritual" material ). Quote

jeffcrom Posted January 6, 2018 Report Posted January 6, 2018 Bill Dixon 7-Tette/Archie Shepp and the NYC5 (Savoy). Outstanding. Ben Young's liner notes clear up a lot of things, and the alternate takes of the solo section of Dixon's "Winter Song 1964" are fascinating. Quote

Had no idea that there was extra material on the CD - sounds like it might be interesting. There was a time when I'd jump at the chance to hear the additional music, but at this stage of the game, I'll probably stick with what I already have. Quote

Just streaming it in fine sound quality, a good way to catch up with what I might have missed this last 12 months. That Art Pepper track is a gem ! Edited January 6, 2018 by sidewinder Quote
