This is the first Alice Coltrane recording I heard, after paying no attention for a long time (maybe I didn't take her seriously, or thought her music would be too much woo-woo spirituality). It's outstanding! I've since gotten quite a few AC recordings (including "spiritual" material ;)).

Bill Dixon 7-Tette/Archie Shepp and the NYC5 (Savoy). Outstanding. Ben Young's liner notes clear up a lot of things, and the alternate takes of the solo section of Dixon's "Winter Song 1964" are fascinating.

I have the LP version. Had no idea that there was extra material on the CD - sounds like it might be interesting. There was a time when I'd jump at the chance to hear the additional music, but at this stage of the game, I'll probably stick with what I already have.

Now listening to:

"Best Historical Jazz Releases 2017" on Night Lights from WFTU.

http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/historical-jazz-releases-2017/

Thanks for the prompt. Just streaming it in fine sound quality, a good way to catch up with what I might have missed this last 12 months.

That Art Pepper track is a gem !
