jeffcrom Posted December 11, 2018 Report Posted December 11, 2018 Steve Lacy - The Cry (Soul Note). Every time I play this one I'm stunned with how good it is. Powerful poetry by Taslima Naslin spoken and sung by Irene Aebi, whose voice seems a perfect fit for the words and music (yeah, I know some won't agree), and an instrumental sextet that is unique in Lacy's output. This time around I was highly impressed with the work of Lacy's second woodwind player, Tina Wrase, who died young. Quote
paul secor Posted December 11, 2018 Report Posted December 11, 2018 Too bad (imo, anyway) that they included Joe Newman and Frank Wess on the original LPs. For me, Jug and the rhythm section would have done it. Plus, after Jug's beautiful solo on "Angel Eyes", there was no need for a flute solo and an organ solo. Again, imo. Quote

ghost of miles Posted December 11, 2018 Report Posted December 11, 2018 Thirty-plus years on, I still love this album. Part of an incredible run for this band that began with 1984's Zen Arcade: Quote
