Rabshakeh Posted November 17, 2020 Report Posted November 17, 2020 (edited) John Butcher - Stuck (Takuroku, 2020) A coronavirus solo piece. One of Butcher's best in while I think. Recommended if your... proclivities turn this way. Nate Wooley Quintet - (Dance To) The Early Music (Clean Feed, 2015) Nate Woolley's band playing creative interpretations of Wynton Marsalis tunes. One of my favourite records of the last decade. Edited November 17, 2020 by Rabshakeh Quote

It certainly looks interesting. That's the same trio backing Tate that backed Paul Desmond on Live (and the recent Mosaic set), right? EDIT: I just checked Discogs, and I see that Bickert and Don Thompson played on Desmond's Live and this Tate date. But Terry Clarke is the drummer for Tate and Jerry Fuller plays on Desmond's record. ... So two-thirds the same. Edited November 17, 2020 by HutchFan Quote

Ed Bickert's playing is outstanding. I really like the sonic combination of tenor and guitar. But I think this one is even better: Quote

Justin V Posted November 17, 2020 Report Posted November 17, 2020 Well worth the $3.19 (now $3.13) on Amazon so far. Quote

JSngry Posted November 18, 2020 Author Report Posted November 18, 2020 Not one I had ever paid attention to in the past, or expect to in the future, but I LOL that it's a five-piece band and all but one of the players has their name on the cover. The fifth is Mark Soskin, which in a weird (or not) kind of way does....something to connect it to late-70s Sonny Milestone records, something, somehow, ouch (but not entirely?)? Quote
Justin V Posted November 18, 2020 Report Posted November 18, 2020 (edited) The Harry Babasin session. After enjoying Larry Bunker on vibes on the Marty Paich Bethlehem session, I was pleased to see that I had more of Bunker on vibes (and Paich) on this set. Edited November 18, 2020 by Justin V Quote
HutchFan Posted November 18, 2020 Report Posted November 18, 2020 After asking about this record yesterday, I'm now giving it a listen via YouTube: Sounds good! Quote

I was mislead by the liner notes I think. Now this one. It´s not as interesting as "Three Worlds of Drums" but a fine blowing session on the chords of "Idaho" .
