Nice to revisit this set which includes so many of my favorite performers.  The stand out track for me this time out -- "Viva Tirado"!  Man, it's actually been years since I last heard that one.  I loved hearing it again so much, I played it three times through!

 

Thanks once more for the Info on this box which arrived today from BERLIN (Germany)  at a reasonable price.

Duke Ellington - Hot Summer Dance (Red Baron)

This version of "Paris Blues" kills me.  Extraordinary piano from Duke.  No one else can play with such luminous nonchalance.  Nobody.

Absolutely! 

That Duke is one that I neglected for a while since it wasn't small group or full orchestra. For some stupid reason I didn't think I'd enjoy his trio work...100% wrong. It's gorgeous.

One of the benefits of having Xmas Hols coming up is that one can dip into fine box sets such as these two. I don’t play the Johnny Smith anywhere near enough.
