I liked the fact that he used Tim Ray on piano. Tim is a Berklee prof and plays in the Boston area almost weekly so I've probably seen him live close to a hundred times by now. Quote

jazzbo Posted Friday at 10:57 AM Report Posted Friday at 10:57 AM Survived a hot night. . . putting up with the sound of the window unit was a necessity. Getting excited about the 50th Anniversary releases of “Blues for Allah” coming up in September, which has led me to put on this finely recorded live version of the material. . . . jazzbo Posted Friday at 11:54 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:54 AM Sly & The Family Stone “There’s a Riot Goin’ On” Epic/Legacy cd This digipak has gathered dust for some time. . . a very influential album and a real time travel for me. Sounding as I don’t think it ever has with the system as it is now. . . a clarity and depth is present that really helps this somewhat imperfect recording. 300×295 9.98 KB Quote

HutchFan Posted Friday at 02:50 PM Report Posted Friday at 02:50 PM (edited) Since original copies of this private pressing LP fetch absurd sums, I'd love to see someone reissue it. I suppose it's not likely, however. . . . Oh well. At least it's available for streaming. Aside from ND's excellent playing, that rhythm section is something special.
