Holy Ghost Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Late night, because I am still grading, with a host of other deadlines; so I put on this: Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Woke up to the sound of an owl hotting nearby in one of our trees. Always makes me happy to hear that! Gearing up to stand in the cold for hours today along with thousands nation-wide. . . I know I’ll wish it were warmer! Starting off with: Randy Weston with Monty Alexander “Montreux/Zaragoza & Ramatuelle Jazz Festivals 1988” In & Out cd This is as interesting a listen as I thought it would be. And sound is quite ggood as well. No bass or drummer, just the two pianists and two percussionists. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Grateful Dead “Dave’s Picks, Volume 10 (Thelma, Los Angeles, CA • 12/12/69)” 3 cd set, disc 1 Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Bill Evans “Morning Glory–The 1973 Concert at the Teatro Gran Rex, Buenos Aires” Resonance 2 cd, disc 1 Bill with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Listening to one of the first LPs I’ve ever owned, given to me by a Peace Corps volunteer my father directed in Swaziland (now Eswatini) unwanted from a care package they all received from Atlantic Records in 1969. It still plays and sounds wonderful! Leo Wright “Blues Shout” Atlantic mono LP Quote
Pim Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Disc 2: Dreams and Roba part 1. So happy to have obtained this set. Challenging but very interesting music. Quote

Peter Friedman Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 It was about 20 years ago when I was at a weekend jazz event in California.Rein De Graaf was attending the event as a listener, but not scheduled to perform. My good friend (the late) George Ziskind ,a fine jazz pianist ,located a room with a piano and wanted to play a bit just to keep his chops in shape. As he began to play in this mostly empty room, Rein De Graaff walked in and asked if he could also play. So for about one hour George and Rein alternated at the piano, each playing 2 tunes each time around. It was a reat treat for me to have the opportunity to hear two very good jazz pianists. They both enjoyed it so much, that they agreed to do it again the next morning. So this was a second morning that I had a wonderful listening experience. Rein De Graaf is very much a BEBOP oriented musician. He played many tunes those 2 morning out of the "bebop" playbook. Tunes by Bird, Monk, Tadd and others. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Leonor Gonzalez – Cantos De Mi Tierra Y De Mi Raza This really is a superb record and it is weird that it is so rarely mentioned. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Paul Gonsalves Quartet “Boom-Jackie-Boom-Chick” Monkey Dog cd followed by “Keith & Donna” Round Records LP Keith and Donna Godchaux, 1975, with Jerry Garcia on board. Reminds me of “Cats Under the Stars.” Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 “Buddy Tate Meets Dollar Brand” Chiaroscuro/Solid Records Japan cd Buddy Tate – tenor saxophone Dollar Brand – piano Cecil McBee – double bass Roy Brooks – drums Quote
jazzbo Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Standing for hours in the cold yesterday tired Lucinda and I out, and I retired a bit early and woke up early. Still cold, and QUIET . . . the system is really shining as it warms up. Starting off with: Miles Davis “Freedom Jazz Dance–Bootleg Series Volume Five” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 3 cd set, disc 3 300×261 9.98 KB I find it fascinating to listen to this set and hear the development of the material in the studio by the Quintet. Sound is excellent as well. Quote
