This is an outstanding album. Some wonderful Johnny Hodges, the best Eddie Heywood I have ever heard. Terrific Ray Nance, Don Byas,Barney Bigard and Aaron Sachs.

3 different sessions all recorded in 1944.

Just found out my car will need very expensive subframe repair due to rust (no garage here in the snowball) so I need some cheering up badly and am re-listening to this Babs Gonzales cd. It has some mojo along those lines.

I’ve always loved this woman’s work, as well as her esteemed husband’s. I was remembering today how much Chris Albertson seemed to detest her work. Makes me chuckle because that’s not the only time we disagreed online!

Flora Purim “Speak No Evil” cd

Ever since I first discovered Flora on her first Milestone album I’ve been a fan. Listening to this yesterday briefly her version of “You Go to My Head” really moved me.

+1.  The RTF Light As A Feather album was my intro, followed in short order by the first RTF album and her Milestone albums.  I wrote to her one time in the mid-70's when she was doing time for the cocaine bust, and she wrote me back.  I also got to see her live at the Tower Theater in 1976, where she opened for Gil Scott-Heron.  Fascinating show.

This is what I'm listening to right now:

Very cool to have a letter from her! I have one from Philip K. Dick, one of my earliest literary influences.

I'm listening to the Dylan box set disc 8 again, before I head out for a few hours standing outside by the side of a main road. It's cold, I'm dressing warm!

Brought to you through the courtesy of love.

It's akin to learning about color theory in painting. If you don't know theory then you really don't know what you're looking at. Notice this has nothing to do with appreciation of the artwork in question, but rather understanding the analytical side of it. - Jim Alfredson
