Which one are you missing?

I don't have January 23, 1954 - but only for a few more days. I ordered the two Fresh Sound CDs of Hi-Hat broadcasts, which bring together most of them, including the one I'm missing.

Johnny Lytle - The Soulful Rebel and People & Love (Milestone; reissued by Real Gone Music)
Outstanding music -- jazz or soul jazz or whatever it is.

Kenny Barron Trio - Lemuria-Seascape (Candid)
One of my favorite Kenny Barron records. It's like home cooking; it may be familiar but it always tastes good.

Yes, skin-wise he was white. Culturally, though, he decided to "live as black" pretty early on and did so until his death. I'd use the word "psychologically" but that implies that there's a race-specific/genetic psychology, and of course there's not. But there is definitely an experiential mindset that comes from living black in America. Otis not only realized that, he embraced it fully. Fully.

His books are required reading, imo.
