Referentzhunter Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 One of the best Field-recording albums. Kenya's wildlife, Scottland's wildlife, Icelandic glaciers shifting into the sea. Fabulous. Quote
soulpope Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 (edited) Edit : Haven`t played this for a long time .... this live show from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival 1976 starts promising but then Irma decides to go Disco with "Lady Marmelade", "Shame, Shame Shame" etc .... what a pity .... The photo was taken by Ernest Withers, a Memphis photographer. I'm not sure what it's about. I have a book of his photographs, so I'll check tomorrow and see if there's some information in it. Quote
Gheorghe Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 The Great Concert of Charles Mingus (Paris 1964) has a special meaning to me. It was my first deep listening experience of Mingus and turned me to open up to listen to things beyond the usual be- and hardbop. Dolphy is a great help in that sense, and Jaky Byard I think could play every style from stride to Cecil Taylor like clusters.... Quote
