Hardbopjazz Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 Does anyone suffer from tinnitus? If so, anything you do to help decrease the ringing or take your mind off the ringing? Quote
xybert Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 Yup. Mines not too bad, similar frequency to a CRT TV. It's always there but not bad enough to keep me from sleeping etc and i can forget about it sometimes. No tips for decreasing it sorry mate. I'm conscious of things that exacerbate it like caffeine, alcohol, being tired, being sick. I do everything i can to avoid further damage. Quote
mjzee Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 I find that when the ringing gets louder, it's related to higher blood pressure. As I relax, the ringing decreases. See if you find whether that relationship works for you too. Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted April 23, 2017 Author Posted April 23, 2017 My daughter is the one with tinnitus. She does have anxiety/stress which I think elevates the ringing. Quote
rostasi Posted August 5 Posted August 5 I've subscribed to this channel called "MyNoise" for years. About a year and a half ago, the fellow who runs it began a video blog and the latest happens to be about tinnitus. He has some information at the beginning about sound masking - which is a relatively common way of masking it (I don't have tinnitus, so I'm going by what I've read and heard from others), but his personal story at the end is interesting. Anyway, he has a very soothing way of describing the various ways of dealing with the various kinds of tinnitus. Maybe it could be of some help if you're interested in knowing more: https://mynoise.net/vlog.php?ep=20260803 Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I have been sleeping with a fan for decades. It dramatically helped me sleep through my tinnitus. When I travel, I use an app on my iPhone called White Noise Lite. As an added benefit, it comes with a large clock display, so I use it as a noise maker and a clock. I bought a magnetic charge stand and it travels everywhere with me. This is the stand: It's only $14 on Amazon. You need to have a MagSafe charge cord and a newer iPhone that supports MagSafe. Quote
rostasi Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Does it allow you to listen to a laundry machine in a rainforest? 2 hours ago, Kevin Bresnahan said: I have been sleeping with a fan for decades. Sounds like something Frank Zappa might've said... 🥁brummph... Quote
Brad Posted August 7 Posted August 7 When I first had tinnitus I purchased a white noise machine but over time I found I didn’t need it. I realize Hardbopjazz’s post is is over nine years old but when my tinnitus was bad years ago, anxiety would definitely make it a little louder and I used to internally talk to myself to relax the anxiety level. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. Quote
