Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme has died of cancer complications, his publicist told Variety. He was 73 years old.

Just saw him last month at a retrospective of his films. 
They started off with Swimming to Cambodia on the 23rd and 
ended with Cousin Bobby on the 26th with him giving a talk on the 24th.

He worked on a film magazine with me many years ago.   Last time I saw him we attended a Benny Carter club date together.

A few years back his "people" contacted me about using a Fred Anderson track for a NOLA, post Katrina film he was working on. He requested an mp3 file to use in a demo he was pitching. I supplied, received a note of thanks and I guess the project didn't fly.
