Larry Kart Posted October 26, 2017 Report Posted October 26, 2017 Listening tonight to Art Taylor's ""Wailin' at the Village Vanguard," I wondered whether any knew what the talented Williams was up to. I have a nice 1992 album of his "Spirit Willie," and there are two others under his own name, but the most recent is from 2007. Quote
uli Posted October 27, 2017 Report Posted October 27, 2017 'heard him not too long ago with Papo Vazquez' band at the Chicago jazz fest. Quote
bertrand Posted October 27, 2017 Report Posted October 27, 2017 He has been playing with TS Monk for a long time. Bertrand. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted October 27, 2017 Report Posted October 27, 2017 I haven't seen Willie in many years, but when I did, he never played two horns at once like he does here: Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 27, 2017 Report Posted October 27, 2017 I only have Comet Ride, but it's excellent and features the superb drummer Rudy Walker. I don't think Willie plays in the city all that much, at least from what the NYC Jazz Record calendar tells me. Quote
soulpope Posted October 27, 2017 Report Posted October 27, 2017 This one is worth listening too .... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 27, 2017 Report Posted October 27, 2017 cool, will seek it out. Enjoy his playing for sure! Quote

Bought this sealed and the cellophane was a bitch to get off. Actually, it didn't come completely off. It looks like the record has the mange. For a debut recording, very well done! Liking this one a lot. From the "What are you listening to" thread in the Vinyl forum. Quote
