mjzee
This looks interesting. Release date February 15: Unreleased session recorded at RPM Studios in NYC in 1979 featuring 8 compositions by pianist Andy LaVerne. Long thought lost, this recording features top of the line playing from an all-star band: guitarist John Abercrombie, saxophonist Stan Getz on two tracks (Come To Me, Hymn For Her), bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Billy Hart. JSngry
Any details on who recorded this in the first place, what the purpose was? Was it done for a label, done on spec by a producer, an artist-produced date, just what, exactly?
mjzee
The only other clue is that the label is "Alv Productions." I take it that "Alv" is Andy LaVerne, so it's probably not a boot. Interesting too that Getz released no studio sides 1979-1980.
Ken Dryden
I will have to get it, since Andy LaVerne is well represented in my collection.

Robert Middleton
Did anyone ever listen to this damn thing? It's not available as Mp3 on Amazon or on Apple Music. And I haven't seen a review. The intriguing aspect is the presence of Stan Getz.
Teasing the Korean
How does it compare to Michael Daugherty's?
Robert Middleton
I ultimately found this used somewhere. It's good but hardly stunning. But glad to have it as I'm a kinda John Abercrombie completist. Stan Gets appears on two tracks. The story of how it was lost and found in the liner notes is quite fun. Think of all the music out there that got lost and never released. But old stuff is being found al the time My favorite in that category is Way Back When by John Surman.
