I've been on a binge of R.E.M.'s IRS records in recent weeks...long story, *long-time* fan. These albums remain absolutely transcendental to me, all these years (decades!) on. Been thinking a *lot* about these two albums recently and how newly-relevant they sound (Document in particular). I was living here in Bloomington as a student when the band came to town to record Lifes Rich Pageant. Here's an article i wrote about it for Bloom Magazine, subsequently expanded for Indiana's Musical Family Tree site: Talk About The Pageant: When R.EM. Came To Bloomington In 1986 Can't say I've ever seen Chronic Town. Released around the same time as Mur Mur? Quote

A few months before, in the autumn of 1982. It’s a five-song EP that was reissued on CD a few years later as part of the B-side compilation Dead Letter Office. Quote

We've got a few trips planned to get out of the heat over the next 6 weeks or so, and then hopefully it's the beginning of hiking season here. Looking forward to that! It's tarantula season right now (which corresponds to monsoon season here - the rain & relatively higher humidity triggers a breeding instinct or something), and we're seeing them. Posted this pic on FB the other day, this AZ blonde tarantula was right in front of my garage. Quote
