GA Russell Posted October 24, 2021 Report Posted October 24, 2021 Jay Black has died at 82. RIP. Come a Little Bit Closer was a silly song, but I always enjoyed it! Jay Black, Lead Singer of Jay and the Americans, Dead at 82: 'We'll Always Remember The Voice' (yahoo.com) Quote
mjzee Posted October 24, 2021 Report Posted October 24, 2021 They had a great series of hits back in the day. Only In America, Cara Mia. That voice just cut right through my tinny transistor radio. RIP. Quote
felser Posted October 25, 2021 Report Posted October 25, 2021 Some Enchanted Evening, Walking in the Rain, Crying,, This Magic Moment,, Sunday and Me.. Cara Mia started as a B side. And I love She Cried most of all. Though I realize that was the previous Jay (Traynor). Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 25, 2021 Report Posted October 25, 2021 JR Monterose went on the road with the band in the mid '60s and decided to stay in Iowa where I met him. Many nights of music at "The Tender Trap" in Cedar Rapids and at "Little Bill's" in Iowa City. We soon became friends and boy, do I have stories. Quote
Milestones Posted October 26, 2021 Report Posted October 26, 2021 The man had a great voice. "Cara Mia" is one of most the powerful and astonishing vocals I have heard in the pop/rock realm. R.I.P. Quote
