Benny More (1919-63)

That's Beny, with one "N."

He loved ron a little too much.  As a ron drinker myself, I can relate.

Here is his money cut.  It doesn't get any better than this, trust me.  I dragged home many, many dollar Beny More albums from the flea market, back when you could find this kind of stuff for a buck a throw.

Moving this to Artists since there no "In Print" relevance to the topic as posted.

At 50 cents or a buck a throw, there's plenty to go around!

And there's ample CD-equivalents to be found as well!

Prado soon enough and willingly enough became a self-parody, but his earliest RCA sides (recorded in Mexico City as I understand) were something else. Fearless, one might say, perhaps.

Agreed.  He could still deliver the goods afterwards, but you really have to hunt for the money cuts on those records.  The early ones were jazzier, more consistent, and less focused on giving the first trumpet a hernia.

That Havana 3 AM record had an insane trumpet section, iirc, Maynard Ferguson AND Conrad Gozzo and I forget who else. AND it's basically kitsch-free. But it is DEFINITELY as loud as fuck.

Havana 3 AM was his classic.  At one time, it was in every thrift store, along with Whipped Cream and Other Delights and Merry Christmas from Firestone Tires.
