Dmitry
I was browsing Coltrane's discography, https://www.jazzdisco.org/john-coltrane/discography/ , and started thinking of who of the many dozens that had played with him, even once, are among the living? Sonny Rollins Some cat called Steve Knoblauch, who Trane let solo on alto sax during his Temple University concert https://thepenngazette.com/jamming-with-trane/ Who else is still around? Seeing Reggie on 6/18 last set of Vision Festival with an ensemble that includes Odean Pope & Gerry Hemingway. Fwiw lots of legends playing during the 27th year of the festival. Hopefully I’ll be there for 5 of the 6 nights.
Al in NYC
Sad in a way that this has come up. I knew a musician, gone now, who used to keep a list of folks who played with and recorded with Bird who were still around (he qualified). Now that list has dwindled down to just a handful (a couple of whom are on this Coltrane list) and we're moving on to the survivors of the next long-gone legend.
