A big day here - "The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard" on SACD, Sonny Stitt, "Move On Over" and "The Last Sessions," Chet Baker, "The Last Great Concert" and the newest reissue of Sinatra's "Ring-A-Ding Ding" (which I buy every time it's reissued); and, in the mail, Bobby Hackett "Plays the Great Music of Henry Mancini/Burt Kaemphert" (!!@!) and Dizzy Gillespie, "Dizzy's Party."

I'm glad I'm not alone - some have reacted in disbelief at my affection for the Bobby Hackett/Henry Mancini album, which I have on LP. (The guy at the record store laughed out loud). But I really like it - it's an album which is entertaining on both ironic and un-ironic levels.

"Sizzling the Blues" (Frog)

That's a great one, and an "important" CD if you want to know what was happening in New Orleans in the 1920's.

Finally got around to ordering it after hearing a track - "Duet Stomp"? - on your last blindfold test. Thanks.

Cut it out ! My planned raid on Manchester Fopp this week delayed for a while, regrettably. :D

No cause for alarm! Bought used via Amazon.uk from Guernsey-based Zoverstocks for £3.04 including shipping :excited: ((Ever tried Zoverstocks with their massive stock of low-priced used items? The recent growth of the used CD market must be a sign of the straightened times!)

Guernsey.. Ah yes, that Mega-Warehouse on an island catering for UK CD and DVD bargain hunters. And tax exile Banker Boys.

Greatest ever find on Guernsey - the Ken McIntyre UA double CD set in a small shop in St Peter Port for £11. I nearly wet myself in the shop ! :D

Fountains Of Wayne - Utopia Parkway and Welcome Interstate Managers

The first time I ever heard Fountains Of Wayne was when the song, "Red Dragon Tattoo" was used for a show on TV. (I think it was some kind of Stephen King adaptation.) I immediately liked the tune and wanted to hear more from the group. Subsequent to that, I discovered that one of the band members wrote the catchy song for the one-hit wonders depicted in the movie, "That Thing You Do". For whatever reason, they fell off my radar until recently when I heard one of their songs again. I asked myself, "Why don't I own any of these guys' CDs? I like them!" I remedied the situation with these two CDs. Fortunately, they're readily available and I was able to get like-new copies for less than $4.00 each delivered.

She Thinks I Still Care: The George Jones Collection

This is a 2-CD, 40 song compilation of Jones' United Artists years. I really wanted the Bear Family box of all his UA material but I really can't afford it and I tend to listen to smaller sets more frequently anyway.

The President and the First Lady

Not Prez and Lady Day but a 20-song compilation of George Jones' duets with Tammy Wynette. Rather than chase down a handful of individual albums, I decided to go the compilation route and allowed myself to be happy with that.

The Three Sounds - Soul Symphony and Elegant Soul

This is my final farewell purchase at YourMusic.com before they close up shop at the end of the month. Even at $3.99 a disc, these two were all I could find of interest out of their highly depleted and rapidly thinning stock. I'm going to miss the site. BMG/YourMusic.com were a great way to build up a nice collection at great prices.
