BillF Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 This morning's Stagecoach driver was suitably shorted, so perhaps the battle has been fought and won. Quote
Brad Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 Saturday through next Friday are going to be dreadful in the Northeast US: in the 90s. Quote

Sounds fairly grim, described on Manchester Evening News website as the "biggest fire in living memory" Biggest fire since ‘The Crazy World of Arthur Brown’. Incredible weather we are having down here - just too bad that work coincides with it.. Quote

A victory for common sense! We've been allowed to wear shorts at work this week too, first time in my 31 years of work. Still boiling in Manchester btw Edited June 28, 2018 by rdavenport Quote
BillF Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 Now Winter Hill's burning as well, so we're ringed by fire! Now playing: Quote

Apropos of nothing in particular: Arthur Brown went to the same school as me, as did The Magnificent Goldberg. I knew Arthur Brown at school, but didn't know Goldberg. Just thought you'd like to know. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) Arthur Brown and Ed Dipple..(but not MG) Pretty amazing ! incidentally - that AB ‘Fire’ performance when broadcast on Top Of The Pops (1967/68?) scared the beejeesus out of me, back in the day Edited June 28, 2018 by sidewinder Quote

Royal Oak Posted July 7, 2018 Report Posted July 7, 2018 Still shmokin' hot here in Manchester. Still allowed to wear shorts at work, England still in the World Cup. We have entered a parallel universe Quote

erwbol Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 No rain here for ages and none on the horizon. In the forest some tree's leaves are turning yellow and falling to the ground. Not good. Quote

Royal Oak Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 (edited) My red Acer palmatum has been dropping odd leaves for a couple of weeks now, which has never happened before. Fortunately, a fairly mature specimen, so I think he'll make it. Edited July 8, 2018 by rdavenport Quote
Scott Dolan Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 Pretty much the same story here in most of the U.S. Hotter than hell, no rain. I chose a bad year to rehabilitate my yard. I read in the Washington Post that so far this is the hottest summer the northern hemisphere has ever recorded. And some place in Pakistan recently recorded the highest temperature in history. Quote
Dmitry Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 (edited) An even 100F in Sevilla right now. Cerveza time. Edited July 8, 2018 by Dmitry Quote
paul secor Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 We've been enjoying pleasant weather - sunny, low 80's - for the last couple of day, but the heat is supposed to rev up again next week. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 Where abouts, Paul? We had a REALLY pleasant four day stretch a couple of weeks ago. Two of them never got out of the low 70’s. Quote

When I lived in Madrid in the late 60s, they used to call the middle of July to the middle of August, “de virgen a virgen.” It was the hottest time of the year. You could only go out in the morning. The afternoons were insufferable. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 Brad, that same period in Southwest Florida was quite similar. People would simply disappear. Then when the extreme stuff broke you’d see your neighbors again, and they’d all say the same thing: “It was just too damn hot to go outside!” Those were the days when you’d have to come inside from simply checking the mail, and change your clothes...
