  3. Saw Kirk MacDonald - saxophone // Harold Mabern - piano // Alec Walkington - bass // Andre White - drums MacDonald is a quality player, as great to see Mabern live, music was old school but a whole lot of fun.
  4. Indeed the super Cup was truly super, catch a replay, it is worth it if you missed it
  5. EPL season starts, MU against Tottenham to start the year , finally a good reason to get up early saturdays. French championship starts also , unfortunately it should be a walk in the park for PSG this year also , they are playing this friday against a side that usually ends up in European competition Lille.
  6. Thanks for the text, barely remembered the Cucaracha angle, they should do that when Mexican teams in Futbol are playing here on in the US
  7. For the Canuck here Amazon. Canada sells it 26 loonies without shipping fees and no need to transfer Canadiaan to US bucks, thanks for the tip, have nothing by the fellow should be a welcome addition.
  8. In wrestling parlance Frank Williams was a jobber a talent enhancement as his job was to make his opponent look good . The most memorable Piper's pit to me was when he went after Jimmy Snuka with a coconut, , the brilliance in that he made people care for Snuka without letting him talk as he was not very good at it. It allowed Piper on the other hand to showcase how naughty he could be, according to Snuka it was him who had the idea to be hit by the coconut. Warning the event is not exactly politically correct. Not as mainstream than in the WWF those who followed the business in the late 70s will have fond memories of him when he worked for many years in Portland for Don Owens
  9. No wonder he made a movie career , one of the best promo guys ever, if wrestlers are as much talking than actually working in a ring nowadays you can in part blame him. RIP
  10. At least Steven G. has played a match, Lampard hadn't yet finally he pulled out, only reason I think of watching it is Laurent Ciman who is becoming on of my favourite athletes , not only for what he he does on the pitch but also outside. If you don't know the background story here's a link http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2015/06/24/family-first-montreal-impacts-laurent-ciman-uproots-life-daughter
  11. Here the city is Drogba, we expect a lot of people welcoming him at the airport today. Tickets and shirts sales are skyrocketting ! In MLS it's tonight the rather trivial All Star game with a team of MLSers will face Tottenham, the league tries to make us believe that it means something. . Domestic european action is starting this weekend as the pre season watlz of Super Cups iare making theiir first step, will be attending the French version of it this weekend as Lyon and Paris St-Germain will play in Montreal. Think of it Ibra and Drogba in the same week .plus Chelsea the last week training in the brand new Montreal facilities, cool week to be a Montreal futbol fan. Transfer wise PSG has been rather quiet this year so far, bigger name arriving is Strambouli !!! Saturday Germany will play also play his brand of Super-Cup with the Bayern facing Wolfsburg and sunday the Community shield an all London affair between Arsenal and Chelsea.
  12. Fans of the beautiful game from out city are going crazy, Didier Drogba is about to sign with the team. He'll be a short term help but hopefully he'll be a boost at the gate , tam is struggling attendance wise with a fan base of only 5000 ticket season holders.
  13. Am very very slowly reading Infinite jest by David Foster Wallace. The content (more later on the packaging) is not easy to follow with the constant changes of narration (Need to remind you that english is not my first language) , the level of writing is high acrobatics although I guess you could make a case of being too witty for its own good. Although you gotta love his souci du détail with those detailed and quite often hilarious footnotes. In a way it reminds me a lot of some of Georges Perec's work. By the way this book begs to be read on those electronic devices as the thing is so heavy and not easy to manipulate that you have a hard time finding a confortable way to read it for a long period of time especially outdoors , if you add the fact after reading two or three pages my head is going in stop or it will explode mode, I wonder if i'll finish it before I actually retire from my workplace. On the positive side you don't need to read it in one stretch, you can go in and out without problems , each chapter being its own world so to speak and the writing has his ways of reminding you of occurences and comments taking place in previous "chapters" . For those who are more familiar with his work was it volontary that he mispelled fauteuils roulants , I think he wrote it roullents in his book ?
  14. Only word coming out my mouth starts by f and rhymes with duck
  15. Disgusting call to end a compelling quarter final between Costa Rica and Mexico, as a Montreal Impact fan I know that feeling of being shafted in games involving teams from Mexico in Concacaf competition.
  16. Sad, very underrated pianist in these parts.
  17. New Horowitz set on Amazon.es featuring unreleased recordings from 1966 to 1983 50 cds for 42 Euros http://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00RKSTMCC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=3626&creative=24822&creativeASIN=B00RKSTMCC&linkCode=as2&tag=bonsplanscl05-21
  18. Jell-O won't ever taste the same Seriouusly if you made a movie of this story, it be labelled unplausible.
  19. Festival ended yesterday, Abdullah Ibrahim with Ekaya was heart warming music at its finest. Uri Caine and John Medeski offered very fine solo sets . Caine showing his proficiency redoing classics in a crowd pleasing fashion while the lesx gifted Medeski worked his around doing a fine jone job of deconstructing music . Among the discoveruies count two thumbs up from yours truly for Pop-world Hindi Zahra . Overall it was a great festival on paper and it delivered, main bummer was the Cohen cancellation .
  20. Attended Lucinda Williams tripleheader Americana bill,. As a dancehall tex-mex band Mavericks are pretty hard to beat. Parts of Lucinda Williams act made me feel real sad and not in a good way.
  21. Abdullah Ibrahim solo kinda ruined by the photographs who took so many shots that you heard their gear over the quiet playing of Ibrahim, if it had lasted for about minutes, we could have lived with it but they did it for at least 20 minutes.
  22. Cruel way of losing a game for the Brits reminiscent of Andres Escobar own goal , don't the same rules apply for the women regarding penalies way too many soft calls in the second semi-final allowing them ?
  23. Vijay Iyer trio massive, probably one of the best trio concert I ever witnessed . Saw Dave Douglas with his project High risk, Douglas was in a fine form but not enterely convinced by the project itself, besides the drummer the other fellows didn't bring that much to the table, and it got a bit redundant fast.
  24. That's basically what this article mentions http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2511608-barcelona-transfer-news-huge-paul-pogba-and-arda-turan-rumours-emerge
