Does the CD replicate the vinyl format, where one disc plays at 33 1/3 and the other plays at 45?

Well, you don't have to flip sides or change speeds.

Sounds really really good though. . . better than the vinyl I think (from comparisons to a tape of the vinyl).

Don't know that there necessarily is such a thing, but it's a good concert from Ayler's middle period, where the emphasis was on the group rather than the solos. Lots of anthematic, folk-type melodies played in a spirit of near-ecstasy. Spiritual Unity it's not, but then, it's not supposed to be.

Bottom line - if you get into Ayler, you'll want to have it, and it's a limited edition.

i like witches and devils, aka spirits. for some reason it sounds like a mellow session. and the 1969-70 material is probably underrated. the various versions of the tune 'prophecy'.

and summertime on 'my name is albert ayler', that's some sweet stuff. but basically, i'd get all ayler.

Thanks for the reminder. I already have this one but this reminded me that I have to hurry up and get the Cecil Taylor Hatology titles (One Too Many Salty Swift and Brewing Luminous) that I've been putting off forever

Is this Hatology material similar to the Live at Greenwich Village 2cd Impulse! release from a few years back?

I listened again to Spirits Rejoice, and seem to enjoy it a great deal more than the Greenwich set.

The Hathut and the Impulse live albums are somehow similar and feature the same band with one exception (Bill Folwell is on bass on the European concerts with Alan Silva taking over in the Village) but both should be enjoyed. Never enough of Ayler material!
