SAN MARZANO Il Pumo 2014 – Puglia Indicazione Geografica Tipica

A pure Primitivo from Puglia, not a stunning, but a nice drink.

p.s. not that you think I emptied this 5 Liter box in one weekend ... a sip every few days.

A pure Carinyena from Catalunya, 2015 vintage - very strong flavor.

Am I the only wine connoisseur here?

Don't know - it was a gift. Well over my budget. Probably $75-95. Something like that. It was delicious.

This evening's delight: a rare pure Marselan from Southern France:

15929_0.jpg

The Primitivo mentioned above was a little disappointing, tasty and full, but not as complex as I would have expected from a wine from that grape variety at € 10 a bottle. The Marselan at € 5 was a nice surprise, fresh and fruity, with a taste of cherries and smoky overtones.

Yes, sounds like it's an awesome wine you had.

Visconde de Borba Reserva 2011 , Southern Portugal.

$18/ 750 ml. I play soccer with a lot of Portuguese guys, so I decided to get a better Portuguese wine. Yesterday night I got a bottle of this, and had some of  it with a taco ground beef that I mixed with barley kasha. Was good.

Finished it off today, without any food. On its own though, not a great drinking wine. Too intense. Would be nice with a rack of lamb.
