Just what the world needs, another singer with note-perfect technique and no emotion.

I'd rather have my teeth drilled.

I can make that happen.

I saw a great Annie Liebovitz photo of Ella today in a gallery.

I don't have a link.

Can fresh bread be made instead? Please?

And don't tell me no knead...

But her pitch is not perfect (sometimes quite sharp) and her syllables are boring.

I've been hearing her name a lot, but I found her voice to be grating when I listened to the clip. Although I don't listen to many vocalists, I was blown away by Cecile McLorin Salvant at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Her range, tone, phrasing and charisma really made an impression on me.

And sometimes it don't, even when it do...just the sort of pointless retro-shit stuck between shows on public TV. No thanx.

Ella doesn't make my top 5.

to each his own--would you favor us with your fab 5?

In no particular order: Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Carmen McRae, Anita O'Day ... and a rotating fifth chair currently held by Jeanne Lee (other occupants have included Lee Wiley & Mildred Bailey, but never Sarah Vaughan).

I'm generally not a big scat fan, but I think Leny Andrade is one of the best alive today.
