Palle Mikkelborg

8 posts in this topic

Danish trumpet player and composer, born 1941. I'm guessing many Americans don't have much familiarity with Mikkelborg outside of his work with Miles Davis on Aura. But I'm also guessing that members here (non-U.S.?) do have familiarity. Share your knowledge!

And check out this 1972 show. Yes, under the Miles influence, but burning nonetheless.

There's also this killer 1966 studio recording, captured on film.

Saw him as part of George Russell’s Orchestra during Russell’s London 80th Birthday Concert. Featured on ‘Listen to the Silence’.

as much as I remember he was Pretty involved in the Music in the making of Dexter´s film "Round Midnight". There is a larger Studio band recording "Round Midnight" and I think it´s arranged by Palle Mikkelborg. Palle even has a small acting role here , some Studio talk…...

And didn´t he arrange the string Album "More than you know".

Really like this Terje Rypdal trio with Palle and Jon Christensen (rip!). There's a phenomenal audience recording from Cambridge, Massachusetts, March 1980, being shared on dimeadozen. Their studio album was awesome, as well.

Mikkelborg's debut, 1967. Has it ever seen a digital release? ("The Mysterious Corona" has a timely sense of foreboding.)

Great record -- have the original on Debut, as well as his album on Metronome called Ashoka Suite (not quite on the same level, but good). He was quite involved with the Radiojazzgruppen at the time, appearing on at least a couple of their other releases. Don't know his later work nearly as well, but an interesting figure nonetheless.

I'll have to check out that Rypdal -- looks cool.
