I grew up with bound 78 albums around the house but I haven't been counting those as box sets.

I'm having a talk with Jesus.

What were the earliest jazz box sets?   Should we count albums of 78s?  (I don't think we had any jazz ones but lots of others in my house growing up.)

This again: Norman Simmons Quartet - Ramira the Dancer (Spotlite, 1977) with Lisle Atkinson (b), Al Harewood (d), and Ralph Dorsey (perc)  

Awesome, and a great idea. I'm a little bit out of the loop as far as jazz journalism these days and a lot depends on what I figure out for my next book projects (I have some ideas at least). There is one project already semi-in-the-works but details are a bit embargoed. Anyway, the next interview I do I'll be sure to inform people of in this space.
