Black Box: The Complete Black Sabbath 1970-1978 (8 CD/DVD)
pglbook replied to pglbook's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Absolute last price reduction (I really mean it this time, ha). Offered for sale is an amazing, and not very common, Black Sabbath box set: Black Sabbath - Black Box: The Complete Black Sabbath 1970-1978 (8 CD/DVD), Rhino, 2004. Everything (outer box, CDs, CD sleeves, DVD, hardcover book) is in Excellent condition. The outer box shows a little shelf wear as is typical of this box set due to the black felt covering of the outer box but it is in better condition than I usually see it in. Also, one of the inner CD cardboard boxes (there are 2 inner CD cardboard boxes that each hold 4 CD digipacks) has a little rubbing to one side edge from it being pulled in and out of the larger outer box. This is probably the best Sabbath CD box set, in terms of mastering (sound quality is amazing) and packaging. Check reviews on discogs (see link below). There are not many copies for sale on discogs and the lowest-priced copy currently for sale there from a U.S. seller is $147 ($130 - shipping+ tax) so I have priced this well below discogs prices. See discogs link below. https://www.discogs.com/release/689...-The-Complete-Original-Black-Sabbath-19701978 $100 (+ $10 media mail shipping, which includes postal insurance) U.S. shipping only. I can only ship on the weekend. Payment by pay pal friends/family. -

Yeah, that's a really good record. I stumbled on to that when I was doing a search on the Jeremy and the Satyrs album. It really struck me how respectful the audience was of Tim and his music. You could hear a pin drop when they were playing, and they were so hip, they could tell what song Tim was going to play by the chords he played as an introduction to each song. The same musicians were on Richie Havens album "Something Else Again", Eddie Gomez, Warren Bernhardt and Donald MacDonald. I thought "No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed" was from "Mixed Bag", and I flipped out when I heard it on"Something Else Again". I knew some great song was not on "Mixed bag", but I forgot which one it was. A lot of the great folk artists back then like Richie, Tim, Nick Drake, Judee Sill, and Kenny Rankin were all hip to jazz, and used jazz musicians on their records

Hooray for Hampton Hawes! It's well worth tracking down.
-
I've been buying loads of Hampton Hawes in the last few days (At the piano, Art Farmer's On the road, Art Pepper's Early Show, Dexter Gordon's Blues a la Suisse) and replayed what's in my collection.... that one is still missing...

Recently, a good friend of mine gave me his old Adcom GFA-555 power amplifier, and I decided to integrate it into my stereo system. Since the amp is vintage, I had it serviced; happily, it came back with a clean bill of health. The technician only had to make minor bias adjustments. Next, I had to buy a preamplifier (since I was replacing my old Marantz AV receiver). After doing a bit of research, I ordered the Schitt Saga 2. It arrived in the mail earlier this week, and I've got everything set up now. Honestly, I'm amazed at how much difference the new amplification makes. I expected improvements, but there's been a huge leap -- especially in the bass. I'm super-pleased, and the system is sounding great!
