  4. This is actually a good album (Euro-jazz fusion, 1974) This is an unusual crossover project but great fun to listen to.

  11. A delightful coolness has settled in over night. I slept well. Always a nice experience. Jerry Garcia β€œLive at the Warfield 1991” disc 1 A six disc set released Friday of three shows at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco in early 1991. Very good sound on this first one. Followed by Kenny Davern, β€œA Night with Eddie Condon” Arbors Jazz cd. This is a live recording from 1971 led by Condon, not released until 2001. The group included. guitarist Eddie Condon, trumpeter Bernie Privin, trombonist Lou McGarity, pianist Dill Jones, bassist Jack Lesberg, Kenny Davern clarinet and soprano saxophone, and Cliff Leeman, drummer. 550Γ—550 546 KB
  12. Manchester Originals vs the Northern Superchargers in the Hundred. These teams have new owners, and next year will probably have new names. Originals won both women's and men's games on the day, the latter by some distance. Beautiful weather and a large crowd.
  13. That VeeJay session is really great, I think Frank Wess gets the cigar here.
  14. Note: Fats Navarro: Vol. 1: "Boppin' A Riff". BYG Records 529 102 - same photo but 'positive'!

  16. I get the "sameness" thing...but lately it seems to me that it's a kind of cold, dead-eyed stare that dares you to blink first. Like, ok, this is what I DO, dammit. And I find myself more and more blinking first.
  17. The original liner notes (by Frank London Brown https://www.discogs.com/artist/2645584-Frank-London-Brown) are some of the truest musings on "black blue collar jazz" that I know of. Oh yeah = Tootie Heath on drums!
  18. Hindemith's work has so much sameyness. But the Fourth Quartet, Op. 22, stands way above the crowd. (Juilliard for me too.) My other Hindemith standouts include the violin and piano concertos from the Kammermusik series and the astoundingly well-built 1940 Cello Concerto.
