"The Complete Blue Note 1964-66 Jackie McLean Sessions" is my favorite Mosaic box set. While most of it is available on single CDs or streaming services, the inclusion of the so-called “High Frequency” session—which has never been available on CD except this box —earns it major points. The live recordings from SteepleChase feature the repertoire from this period. I really want BN to release "High Frequency" (and my another favorite, "Hipnosis" ) as a single CD or for streaming.
Plenty in that list I enjoy and plenty there I've never heard, but the 2 volumes of Kenny Barron at Bradley's I particularly love.
Bradley's was a bar, not a club. The piano was situated near the front window. Many performances I saw there (John Hicks, Roland Hanna) were simply solo piano. These 2 Barron trio discs/albums sound so alive and capture a wonderful moment in time that are now, regrettably, long gone.
Thanks for presenting the BFT.
I enjoyed listening to it. Couldn't guess much (if anything), and it was a busy work month so I didn't have time to post much.
I'm somewhat of a Francophile when it comes to classical music, but hadn't heard #4 and couldn't muster a guess, though the actual composer was one of the main suspects that came to mind.
#3 definitely worth the price of admission, and there are several others I intend to follow up on. Have heard loads of "Barbara Song"s on record recently (the tune seems to be popular with Euro jazz musicians), but wasn't familiar with the recording of #2.
