Well, I lean towards Mr. Lowe on this one. Hot Dog is one of 25+ Donaldsons in my collection and I kept it (for the second time - vinyl long gone) to remember when this music started a slide. YMMV.

Don't have the time or inclination to elaborate other than to say he'd developed a wonderful identity 25 years before the Coltrane influence and he lost much of the influence later. I really enjoy the Vanguard recordings and suggest, if you do, you can get the complete 9 disc set for around $50-70 bucks.

Thanks Roger. I think we'd be better off with a two flat to contain our hobbies. I have a "record company" (as you know) and Ann does pottery and a bunch of other artsy stuff. The search continues.

Just want to say that Schuller's Swing book is wonderful and I have some problems with it. Any interested fan should read it. I wish he'd published more. I was looking forward to fighting with him on later stuff.

Seems to have left him with a cold ptah.

Vol 3 and 4 will not happen. Tons of material gathered but no time or energy to complete.
