  1. The Uptown Hawk is not essential. It is/was probably a typical gig for him at the time. It is from 1958.
  2. I always thought it silly, but 6ish years ago on the day that issue arrived about the jinx with a black cat on the cover was the day my cat died. Face it, your team has had it! At least your cat died.
  3. Derek Humble Derek Jeter Jeter-Pillars
  4. Cubs lost tonight.
  5. So, we'll piss and moan then. Let the guy go for now.
  6. Dump the goats.
  7. Back when they were doing the "jazz" series I got a call from one of his assistants asking if we could negotiate a deal for some of my "copyrighted" material. I said ok. She responded with something like "well, most folks are offering material for free so if you don't say yes your material is OUT!
  8. Screw the Genius awards. Why doesn't someone give me a "not a complete idiot" award. I'd accept a few thousand with grace.
  9. Nothing really bad about Altschuler mentioned yet. Chris said he didn't like him and I (with less experience) said he seemed "gruff". Unless something else surfaces we should respect his many years of work, regret the inevitable death and leave it at that.
  10. I agree completely. Very few Americans understand the limits of their machines. When you understand those limits, you can use them to your advantage. I've had a "new" car for 9 months and have not yet mastered the inherent qualities. I love cars and driving. My preference is 4 cylinders, torque, speed and a relatively stiff suspension.
  11. Bob also gets credit as a producer of a couple of early Albert Ayler dates - "Witches and Devils" and "Goin' Home".
  12. I think that is a great "unknown" masterpiece. I finally got around to ordering this: Can't believe I didn't have it already.
  13. Met him a couple of times - once at a NARM convention and once at a "collectors mafia" meeting at Black Rock. My memories are of a gruff personality.
  14. Diamond earrings aren't exactly rare among pro athletes these days... especially in the NFL. Not rare among guys in prom dresses either.
  15. Not now.
  16. Are these inflatable dolls?
  17. I had hoped for more.
  18. That material and those colors would make "rad" prom dresses back in the day.
  19. In 1992 I got a little hot rod know and a Nissan Sentra SE-R. Afterbreaking it in I took it out with a friend and "topped out" at 128 mph. A couple of months later our son asked to use the car to run an errand, came back with a huge grin on his face and said "130 mph, good goin' Dad"!
  20. There's a mental image I'll have a tough time shaking.
  21. When I lived in Boston I frequently saw a big BMW with "PU5SY" plates.
  22. I remember the news of his death as if it was last year. Damn, time does fly. More than happy I had a few "live" experiences - "classic" quartet, quartet + Shepp and the final quintet.
