  1. Starange you should say something like that.
  2. Does this mean he's minus 2 cigars?
  3. WTF happened to "tone controls" and equalizers? In the (real) days of vinyl the audio freaks had individual "curves" for each of their favorite records. edit for silly typo
  4. Sorry to intrude on an American League thread. Go Cubs.
  5. Fine record, as is the other side. My favorite recordings of these works.
  6. Stupid DJ.
  7. BS - it said there are 0 people in the US named Nessa. I know of about 100 and can provide a picture (taken in December, at my father's memorial celebration) of around 15. you are definitely an uncommon sort. Probably little to do with the name.

  9. I got queasy from just looking. Vomit inside the helmet would not be pretty.
  10. I'm currently looking for 12 1/4 x 12 1/4 x 5 at a reasonable price.
  11. Siegfried and Roy.
  12. How does one gast a flabber?
  13. Correct. The lp masters would have be cut from the session masters. Why not?, the tapes would never leave Rudy's studio - he cut the lp masters too. It was different with the "majors".
  14. Gotta beat someone. Defense?
  15. The Verve sessions would have been recorded at Rudy's. Don't have any version of the "Iron City" date any more but a quick listen should tell you if it was recorded there. If it was, it is the Verve tapes.
  16. Rudy Van Gelder Van Johnson John Johnson
  17. Feather, an Englishman, came to the US and worked tirelessly to promote jazz. He did a lot of good. Sadly, and to his detriment, he never missed an opportunity to promote himself, his songs and his accomplishments. This took a darker side later when he tried to kill careers of folks not "playing ball" with him. His memory would be a bunch kinder if not for his greedy personality. I was banned from AAJ for commenting on the quality of his daughter's talent. Leonard is dead but I'm still banned.
  18. Holy Crap!!
  19. So you had "control/power" over each of them.
  20. Saw my wife across study hall when I transferred to a new school. That was 48 years ago.
  21. Sometimes silly arguments by folks who have never been there/done that. If we can make the jump to compare making a recording to making a movie, it might be helpful. The producer (if he's more than a stopwatch mechanic) has done a bunch of work before the session and has an image of the finished tape much like a film director. The engineer works as the recording producer's vessel (like a cameraman) to reproduce the "imagined" sounds. These sounds do not necessarily need to sound as they would in the imaginary listener's living room or in a concert hall or club. It just has to sound as imagined for the project. The ultimate burden is on the musicians (actors) for a great performance. One variation from the film analogy is the strength/ego of the leader to exert power over the others. On second thought, it might be the same in the movies with the exception of the leader being the "writer" too.
  22. The date was 6 years old when I bought my first copy - with a gold "stereo" sticker on the front.
  23. Not correct. SH is a reasonable remastering engineer. Never said anything different. Just never thought he was the "end all". SH has pissed on Rudy's work and made a large part of his career selling masterings of Rudy's tapes. "Amazing sounds" is not an unusual message from SH when "remastering" RVG tapes. I just think this is jive. Both are fallible guys but one is an original.
