  1. I always liked baseball and had some success in little league, even making an all star team one year. Unfortunately as I got older, I badly needed glasses, but didn't want to wear them or even tell my parents that I needed them. By the time I was a HS sophomore I couldn't see the ball half the time and ended up quitting. . Pop Warner Football was a total disaster. The coaches were sad little men, living out their Vince Lombard fantasy by browbeating 11 year old boys. I hated it and quit after one game. Since I was a third string offensive lineman, nobody noticed or cared, except for the guy who called my home several months after the season ended demanding that I return my uniform.
  2. Judging by what he did during the Italian campaign, he's looking for his brain.... Or worrying about his upcoming appearance on What's My Line
  3. You're assuming that anyone who buys these things has any intelligence left to insult.
  4. I saw this book in Borders last week. It contains all of Davis's Downbeat blindfold tests among many other interviews with him.

  6. Sounds like something that might happen in Alaska... Or on any college campus
  7. In the early 90s a friend dragged me to a benefit concert for WFMU that featured Sonic Youth and John Zorn. I hated every minute of it. My friend, who was a volunteer at the station, gave a ride to the concert to a DJ at the station. I remember he treated us like we were incredibly lucky to be seen in public with such a cool guy. A perfect companion for a painful evening.
  8. Even when I was a little kid I enjoyed this
  9. I did a Times search on the address and found this from 1968. Does this help at all?
  10. I'm not a CA stalker, but I did save an image of this 1970 letter to the editor in Rolling Stone.
  11. My corporate masters don't want me to know: I can live with that.
  12. This 6/14/1953 ad in the Times mentions the "high fidelity industry"
  13. Doing a search for "hi-fi sound" in the NY Times I found this in an Xmas day 1938 classified ad for what seems to be a prehistoric party DJ
  14. I hope I can post this from a 1965 NY Times story
  15. I don't understand any of this shit even though it could cost me my job. made me laugh however.
  16. This gave me nightmares for months after I saw it on TV when I was 8 or 9
  17. I can't get enough and with two DVR's and tons of HD nature shows, Met's games, and 3 a.m. repeats of 1950's What's My Line broadcasts (only 4 more shows to the news of Fred Allen's death) I'm quite happy with it all.
  18. I was reading up on 1920's gangster news in the NY Times when I came upon a reference to young Lee Wiley and her supposed connection to dead Brooklyn mobster Frankie Yale. This appeared on 8/4/1928. It's not exactly breaking news but...
  19. It's not as big as your collection but now I have something to aim for. Most of these are no longer being used.
  20. There's a half hour high minded nightly New Jersey news show on NJ Public Broadcasting which a few people watch. The local NY and Philly commercial stations cover whichever NJ murders, fires, fatal car crashes, and corrupt pols that they think are worthy of notice.
  21. There are no New Jersey TV stations unless you count a couple of NJ Public Broadcasting stations.
