Yes and no.... On the one hand yes it will no doubt be a great show entertainment wise with enthusiastic audience sing alongs... On the other hand No because you cannot replace the charismatic stage presence, wittiness, and obvious musical genius that was Frank Zappa.. Though Dweezil has proven to be capable of keeping Zappa's music alive, there's really not much he or his brother Ahmet could add to what has already been accomplished, especially when it comes to the orchestral works...

It was a great party with lots of food in the dangerous kitchen and the 20 trivia questions were really tough this year! Like this one: According to Frank, whose demands were the equivalent of treating dandruff by decapitation? ...

Two years ago Gail Zappa actually called during the party to see if it really was true that this party existed and had been going every year since 1984. She had heard a rumor somewhere about the annual event, somehow got a phone number.. A woman at the party answered and thought it was a prank call and hung up.. Gail called right back and chatted for about 20 minutes with the hosts..

I just finished Donald Westlake's "The Axe".. A pretty dark book about a guy who gets layed off from his midmanagement job in the paper industry.. My next endeavor will be Carl Hiaasen's new book, "Nature Girl". I've read most of his books and find them to be always colorful, funny, and entertaining..

They put on an excellent show when I saw them last winter. Who?? Kung Fu?? Seriously, I heard them on Lazaro's radio show maybe last spring doing a live in studio performance and was knocked out by their tunes and their fresh approach!

Zappa was born and died the same month... In GR, MI on the 21st there is a Zappa birthday party and this I believe will be the 15th year.. A lot of people come through and there is always a trivia questionaire of 18 - 20 questions and some of them are pretty tough! There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place. Last year I won 1st prize, a nice warm Zappa hoodie.. Every room in the house has either Zappa videos or Cds playing.. And you can't miss the house because ZAPPA is spelled out on the roof in Xmas lights.

I watched it last night and again was blown away by the collective and individual talents in Pat's band! Sanchez just keeps getting better!

Just checked out of curiousity to see who the member celebrating their birthday today is and whether they would be worth posting a "happy birthday" to. Well I'll pass on this one and I suspect there are a large number of other people like this one registered as members who have zero posts and many who haven't even been back since they registered! Just an observation. I guess this is probably common on all the forums boards..

My Anita O'Day Story... In the mid-80's I saw Anita O'Day in Detroit at Baker's.. After her set I approached Anita to get an autograph for my mother, a long time fan of her music. Anita told me to get a paper & pen and she'd be happy to give me her autograph for my mom. I come back with a bar napkin and a pen and Anita looks funny at me and says, "man,, I ain't signin' no motherfuckin' napkin,, go get me a real piece of paper" .. She was a class act!
